How was the Berlin Wall was Built
The Berlin wall began on August 13 1961, as a way of separating zones controlled by France, Britain and America from the zone controlled by the Soviets Union. Within a month the first generation of the Berlin Wall was built using square concrete blocks. They started to get a lot of people fleeing to the West so in 1962, they added to the to the wall even more which made the second generation, but it is hard to tell the difference between the first and second generations. The third generation on the other replaced the first and second all together. It was built in 1965, and consisted of concrete slabs between steel girders concrete posts with a concrete sewage pipe on top of the wall. They seem to love concrete for this wall. Finally, in 1975, the last of the generations, the fourth generation had new concrete slabs, was now 12 feet high, included vehicle trenches, and 302 watchtowers. They wanted no one escaping at this point. Even though they went through all of that in 1989, they finally brought the wall down and everyone joined in to destroy it.
